Israeli airstrikes target Hezbollah-affiliated fuel depots in Syria: monitor

DAMASCUS, Aug. 23 (Xinhua) — Powerful explosions rattled the western countryside of Syria’s Homs province on Friday evening as Israeli airstrikes targeted fuel depots linked to Hezbollah, according to a war monitor group.
The strikes reportedly hit fuel depots near the village of Khirbet al-Tin in the Safita-Homs corridor, west of the Homs refinery, as well as warehouses near the city of Hama, according to the Syrian Observatory for Human Rights.
Syrian air defenses failed to intercept the incoming missiles, which struck their intended targets, the observatory added.
Meanwhile, Iyad Muhammad, commander of the Homs Fire Brigade, confirmed to the pro-government Syrian newspaper Al-Watan that two people were injured in attacks on the village of Umm Harateen, west of Homs, and the village of al-Doury, north of the city. The injured individuals were transported to the hospital in Homs for treatment.
The attack occurred amid ongoing regional tensions, with Israel frequently targeting sites in Syria linked to Hezbollah. ■
